Acupuncture: Ancient Wisdom with Modern Insight

Dr. Talmage is a certified veterinary acupuncturist. She has been interested in this modality of medicine since her school days. Reading and studying on her own, she began to use acupuncture in her practice. In 2007, she received her formal training from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. This course is based on clinical neuro-anatomical point of view.

Acupuncture is a modality of medicine not a philosophy or New Age belief. The Chinese have been using it for over 3000 years. Dr. Talmage has found that it works well for the older arthritic animals and in acute wound cases. Colic patients seem to get better sooner. When acupuncture on a regular basis, performance horses do better and stay sounder. Side effects are almost nonexistent. There are no drugs involved so acupuncture makes a good choice for the organic livestock operation.“ I do not think of acupuncture as ‘alternative’. Rather it is another
tool that I can use to help an animal in pain and improve its overall health. It is complimentary medicine.*

Digital Radiology System

Amicalola Veterinary Services is excited about the digital radiology system. It allows us to take X-rays in the field, barns, and anywhere is needed.

With the Metron software, we have a diagnostic picture within five minutes. The pictures can be emailed to the owner for personal record keeping and for consultation to obtain a more in depth diagnosis.
